How to Fix Sagging Gutters

How to Fix Sagging Gutters gutter freedom

To prevent damage to your home, we have created a guide about repairing sagging gutters.

Gutters are an essential part of any home. They collect water and direct it away from the foundation. However, if they are damaged or clogged, the water will have nowhere to go other than inside your house, causing damage to the ceiling, walls, and floors. You must keep your gutters well-maintained to avoid costly repairs and the potentially hazardous conditions that water damage creates.

One of the most common issues is sagging gutters, which can make your home dysfunctional and vulnerable to damage. To prevent damage to your living space, we have created a guide about repairing sagging gutters.

Clean Debris and Clogs

One of the primary causes of sagging gutters is clogged water and debris. First, you must remove all debris as thoroughly as possible. This includes cleaning clogs in your downspouts. This may be enough to solve the problem. To confirm the clog is fixed, spray a hose into your gutters and see if they’re draining correctly.

Add More Support

The sheer weight of the debris and water can damage your gutter hangers. If this happens, you will need to tighten or replace them. Use a screwdriver to tighten the gutter screws. You can also install extra gutter hangers, gutter brackets, or straps to support the damaged section of the gutter and protect your home.

Repair Old Gutter Spikes

Gutter spikes are long spikes that run through the front of the gutter and out the back, attaching to the fascia board. While typically very durable, gutter spikes eventually wear down, causing sagging. This tends to happen during heavy rain or snow. Inspect the area where the gutters are sagging and check the status of your gutter spikes. If they are a little loose, you can try to nail them back into the wall.

If the gutter spikes are broken, bent, or rusted, they must be replaced. Gutter spikes are measured in inches, so you must measure your current gutter spikes to know which size you need

Next, you must remove the damaged gutter spikes and install the new ones every two to three feet along the gutter system. If you live in an area with heavy snow, they should be two feet apart.
